Seasearcher is Lloyd's List Intelligence's flagship product, a global intelligence platform that provides real-time data and insights on the world's shipping and maritime industry, packed with a range of features above and beyond vessel tracking - such as cargo data, vessel and company ownership risks, emissions data, legal sanctions, trade risk and more. As such the platform is packed with features all aimed at a wide variety of use cases, from government intelligence and insurance, to commodity traders, banks and many others.
I led the UX and visual design overhaul of the platform to coincide with a repackaging of the platform that would introduce new workflow-oriented Modules to users. Aside from modernising the look and feel and aligning more closely with the brand, key aims of the redesign were to improve usability, accessibility, and overall user experience, as well introducing more user personalisation, allowing users to customise their dashboard and workflows to their needs, creating dramatically different experiences depending on the user's role and needs.
The platform contains a huge amount of data, so making things clear and legible - allowing access to everything whilst not immediately overwhelming users - was also an important consideration. Designing and developing the changes was an ongoing, iterative process, so the creation of a UI toolkit and design system was a key part of the process, helping standardise design across the various modules and accelerate future designs and development.
